Fall 2012 Conference Classes with Cecelia Podolak

Cecelia Podolak has a MSc in Clothing, Textiles & Merchandising and is an experienced university professor in Vancouver, BC. She specializes in sewing quality garments with an emphasis on fit and professional pressing. Her best-selling Threads book, Easy Guide to Sewing Jackets and her video/DVD, Fearless Pressing, have become invaluable references for the sewing library.

Through her company, Material Things, she designs The Classics line of fashion sewing patterns designed for real bodies which feature industry grading so the fit is fabulous. The basic patterns can be used as they are or can be easily restyled to incorporate other design features. Cecelia also writes for sewing magazines and has been a contributing author to Threads, SewNews, Vogue Patterns and Australian Stitches magazines. Her jacket and raincoat have both been featured on Threads’ magazine covers and she has been photographed wearing her Classics Patterns for a profile article in the Australian Stitches magazine.

She conducts and teaches seminars and workshops in both Canada and the United States. Summer workshops are held in her Port Moody studio. Learn more by visiting her website: www.CeceliaPodolak.com

The t-shirt is a sophisticated, must-have wardrobe item and we all long for one with the perfect cut! Ce’s pattern with 32.5″ to 46.5″ bust is designed with a European high-cut underarm, ease in the bust area and extra width across the back shoulders. Bust and hip measurements aid in selecting the correct size before you cut and sew the test copy. Then make further refinements as we fit your t-shirt. Sewing a Muslin Test Copy (All Levels)
Cecelia shares tips on how to test a pattern’s fit by sewing a muslin test copy before cutting and risking your fabulous fashion fabric. Use this technique on a complex pattern, new pattern line or unusual garment style. Accuracy is a must and we’ll discuss taking measurements, selecting pattern sizes, cutting, marking and sewing secrets. Sewing a test copy saves time, money and confidence that the garment will fit.
