Seam Finishes (25) All Levels
Discover a variety of seam finishes for all types of garments. Working with a variety of threads and weights of fabrics, you will make a French seam, flat felled, mock flat felled, hand overcast, hong kong, bound, zig zag and serged seams. Plus, learn how to make continuous bias for some of these seams.
3 Hour Workshop

 

Jackets: Bagging a Lining (25) Intermediate
Ever shied away from lining a jacket? Discover how to completely assemble and insert a lining by machine. Using industry techniques, you will sew and line a half scale jacket turning the entire jacket right side out through a small opening in the lining sleeve. Once you work through this technique, lining any jacket is quick and easy.

Handling Velvet (25) All Levels (25) Intermediate
Luxurious velvet is wonderful to touch and can add a touch of elegance to a project. From silk velvet, burnout velvet, stretch panne, cotton and rayon, velvet can be very difficult to sew due to its slippery nature and nap. Sharing tips from her article for Vogue, Kathryn will discuss cutting, pressing and construction techniques. Complete a variety of samples using different types of velvet to include seam finishing techniques, under stitching by hand, buttonhole, zippers and hem finishes.

Couture Details (25) All Levels
Little details add to the value of a garment. Based on her article for Vogue, students will complete a variety of samples including how to make your own covered shoulder pads, fabric covered snaps, lingerie strap stays with snaps, a hand picked zipper, hand worked buttonholes and adding weights to a hem.

Recycled Fur (25) Intermediate
Fur has been a huge trend over the past number of years. Based on her popular article for Vogue, you will learn how to shop for and recycle an old fur coat. Explore design ideas and construction techniques as you complete a variety of seam and finishing samples while learning about cutting fur, backing skins, presser feet, thread, stitches, closures and hems. Optional Bring: Fur coat for assessment.
3 Hour Workshop

 

 

Jackets: Tailoring Techniques (25) Intermediate
Based on a casual, partially lined jacket, Kathryn will discuss drafting you own partial lining for the body of the garment and sleeves, seam finishes for an unlined jacket, adding an inside welt pocket, fusible tailoring techniques and how to make perfect patch pockets. You will complete samples for a welt pocket, hong kong seam finish, corded buttonhole and a patch pocket.
