Maggie Vanderweit operates Stone Threads Fibre Art from her studio in Fergus, ON. She is an award-winning quilter with work in Canadian galleries, museums and private collections around the world. This past year, Maggie won the Award for Excellence in Innovation for “Bedolina Threads” at the CQA National Juried Show in BC. In this class you will practice transferring sketchbook drawings from paper to fabric, outline stitching them and then painting to add highlights, texture and colour. Not confident sketching? No worries… Maggie will bring copyright-free images of flowers, birds, animals and more for you to use or bring your sketches of line drawings. See how to easily turn them into exciting, original, textile art using your sewing machine, thread and paint. Pre-requisite: Must be able to free-motion machine quilt. Supply List & Kit $15+

Quilts to Dye For… Learn how to do this technique at Creativ Festival with Maggie Vanderweit.

Join Maggie for a magical trunk show highlighting the fabric and artwork she’s created with Wrap and Rust Dyeing. Using a variety of natural woven materials, plants from her garden and kitchen, with rusty metal as a mordant and the help of her dye pots, Maggie conjures one-of-a-kind fibre art which is soft focus, ephemeral and beguiling. Pieces showcased are from her ‘What Remains’ series.
