Introduction to Table Weaving at Creativ Festival

This hands-on practicum teaches the basics of tablet weaving. Tablet weaving with a simple set-up that can be used almost anywhere. Tablet weaving is a narrow-band weaving technique that is commonly used for belts, straps, dog leashes and decorative edging on clothes. This technique (also known as card weaving) developed independently in a number of countries has been used for thousands of years. Learn how to string your own bands and explore a variety of pattern techniques. Kit $12 www.ealdormere.ca

Learn illumination painting at Creativ Festival

Learn basic skills to create a glowing miniature painting that looks like it was ripped from an ancient manuscript. Using images inspired from history, your illumination will be beautiful framed on its own or when used to embellish a special project. Here’s your chance to learn how to use gold leaf to make your pages shine. In this class… everything that glitters IS gold. Bring: 4H pencil, fine tipped black pen & small paint brushes (10/0 to 2). Brushes for sharing available in class. Kit $12

Historical Writing Styles

Learn historical font types at Creativ Festival

This session includes a quick historical overview of historic font types, known as ‘hands’, followed by instruction on the Carolingian miniscule and Gothic writing styles. These fonts can be used to embellish scrapbook pages, gift and holiday cards, certificates and letters. There’s no limit to the possibilities. Bring: 4H pencil & ruler. Kit $14

Intro to Celtic Knotwork (20) Beginner

Draw Celtic Knots at CF

Master Celtic Knotwork at Creativ Festival

Come master basic techniques to draw Celtic knots. Then create more elaborate interlace designs that can be used to fill borders or panels. Apply these skills to embellish cards, scrapbooks, paintings, woodwork, quilts, design embroidery and so much more! If time permits, we’ll discuss techniques for filling in less regular shapes and drawing beasts. Bring: Pencil, eraser & small clear plastic ruler.
