Hand Quilting: It’s a Snap

Hand Quilting

Marilyn demonstrates the technique of hand quilting on small Q-snap frame as a whole cloth method. Hand quilting is the method of sewing together the three layers of a quilt (the backing, the batting and the top) in patterns of hand sewn stitches. It’s certainly not fast, but it is stunningly beautiful. Once you get the jist, you’ll be able to give the technique a try!

Room 102 – Fri 10:30

Sharon Galna

Sharon Galna was taught how to sew at the age of eleven by her mother. It was while in college in 1983 that she made her first quilt to celebrate her grandparents’ 50th wedding anniversary and was immediately hooked. She is currently the Program Coordinator and Quilt Show Chair of the Twisted Stitchers Quilt Guild in Ajax. Her time is now devoted to teaching the art of quilting at the Ultimate Sewing Centre in Oshawa, and presenting trunk shows and workshops to quilt guilds across the province of Ontario. She is known for her use of vibrant colours, free-motion machine quilting and prefers to work in an “artsy” style. She has had pieces juried into the Grand National Quilt Exhibition (2006, 2007 & 2010) and her work has also been shown at the Joseph Schneider Haus, the Oshawa Fibre Arts Show and the Visual Arts Centre of Clarington.
