Solidify your Foundation Piecing Skills

Fredericks, Shahena (Social Media)_700x525Shahena Fredericks is the owner of Cozy Quilts, a quilt shop in the lovely town of Port Hope, Ontario, Canada. Prior to Shahena opening her quilt shop, she worked for one of Canada’s five largest banks in the Human Resources field for 25 years. She started in an administrative role and worked her way up to such positions as Manager, Human Resources, Training and Development, as well as Manager of the Bank’s Ombudsman office. This is where her love for working with people came from.

Shahena has always loved sewing since she was a child. She took her first quilting class in 1990 and never looked back. After working for the bank for 25 years, Shahena decided to turn her hobby of quilting into a business. She started by long-arm machine quilting out of the basement of her home. Soon thereafter, customer quilts were piling up for quilting and she was getting requests to teach patchwork. In 2007, she decided to open a brick and mortar shop. In 2008, she took a workshop with Judy and was hooked on Judy’s way of foundation paper-piecing. Her true passion now is teaching. Even though she is a shop owner, Judy’s techniques are in such demand that she teaches them at guilds, as well as larger events such as Creativ Festival in Toronto. She holds quilting retreats twice a year in different areas of the province for people who can’t get to her shop to learn Judy’s techniques. www.cozyquilts.ca
