His appreciation for a nice suit began with his white communion tuxedo, and everyone gushing about how great he looked. Michael Nguyen understood then the importance of how you dress, and he did everything he could to gain all knowledge and experience available: altering his sisters’ hand-me-downs; working in the stock room and sales floor of Holt Renfrew, Grafton and others. He studied accounting at York University, and followed his heart in fashion design at George Brown College.

In 2007, Michael opened his own tailoring shop, Garrison (at Wellington & Yonge), which has spawned Garrison Weddings (at the King Edward Hotel) and Garrison Celebration Collection (at Holt Renfrew). Not only does his exquisite tailoring speak for itself, but he aims to build long-term relationships with his clients. His client list includes Canadian and Hollywood celebs, due in part to his work on the popular and hyper-stylish tv shows Suits, and Hannibal. Plus, there’s the lightweight bulletproof suit he and his team created – yes, really.

Michael believes the fashion industry offers many valuable skills to its students and apprentices, not the least of which are sales and customer service.  To read more, check out this Toronto Star article.
