Catch the Storie behind these Needlework Designs & Techniques

Storie, Carol_700x659Carol Storie creates and teaches designs in many techniques of counted thread including hardanger, canvas work, pulled thread, and cross stitch. She incorporates specialty threads and a wide variety of stitches and is most recently known for her innovative canvas work bowls.

Carol’s instructions and charts in her patterns are easy to follow. Her teaching style is friendly and relaxed with lots of great tips and patience to get you through even the toughest of stitches.

Her designs have been published in EAC’s quarterly publication, Embroidery Canada, and several were featured in Grainews as part of a regular column. She has taught at different cities within Saskatchewan, for EAC at Seminars, two online Workshops, a group Correspondence Course, and at Creativ Festival in 2012 and 2014.

Carol is the owner of Heartfelt Designs, a member of The Regina Stitchery Guild, the Virtual Threads, the Embroiderers’ Association of Canada (EAC) and the Needlework Designers of Canada. She previously served on the EAC Board of Directors as the Youth Embroiderers’ Director and has recently completed the EAC Design for Embroidery course. www.Heartfelt-Designs.com

Icy Ornament – Beginner to Intermediate

Storie, Carol - Icy Ornament_700x1077This design was created for Creativ Festival in 2014 and was a very popular seller. This sparkly ornament will be a favourite on your Christmas tree. Stitched with silver-speckled 24 count Congress cloth with a combination of Bargello, Blackwork and Beading. Bring: Tacks and stretcher bars to fit 4.25″ square piece of fabric. Kit $10 includes finishing & twisted cord instruction.

Dancing Maple Leaves – Beginner to Intermediate

Storie, Carol - Dancing Maple Leaves_700x315The maple leaves in this bookmark are outlined with whipped Backstitch and filled with different Blackwork stitches. It is stitched on gold-speckled 24 count Congress cloth and uses four different DMC colours as well as one of the colour variations. The piece was finished as a bookmark, but could easily be made into a glasses case or an insert for a tote bag. Kit $18

Star Coaster – Beginner

Storie, Carol - Star Coaster_700x692Stitch a 3.5″ square coaster on 24 count congress cloth with Caron’s Watercolours and DMC Perle Cottons. It has been finished as a coaster, but could also be finished as an ornament or needlecase. Bring: Tacks and stretcher bars to fit 5″ square piece of fabric. Kit $10

Playful Alphabet – Beginner

Storie, Carol - Playful Alphabet_700x189A playful alphabet cross-stitched in four different variegated colours with accents of Lazy Daisy and Eyelet stitches. This piece was originally designed for EAC Youth Embroiderers, and is a great beginner project. Approximate stitching area is 12″ x 3″. Kit $20
